What is the PEACE PROJECT?
|
The PEACE PROJECT is an in-school suspension program for youth who are
suspended for violent behaviors. The project provides training and services in
conflict resolution, peer mediation, stress management and peace education.
Training is also provided for school personnel and parents.
The PEACE PROJECT provides student with an alternative to suspension through
mandatory participation in a nine (9) hour Peace Education Skills Training
Program.
The project is
conducted at L. J. Price Middle School in the Carver Homes Public Housing
Community, Atlanta, Georgia.
The program operates on-site five days per week, Monday
through Friday from 9:00AM until 3:00PM.
- To teach students positive social skills to reduce violence in their
lives.
- To equip students with coping skills that promote peace and
wellness.
- To reduce repeated suspensions of at-risk students due to
interpersonal violence and violence-related conflicts.
- To train educators how to incorporate violence prevention and
intervention strategies in the classroom settings.
- To teach parents coping skills and strategies to reduce violence and
conflict in the home.

Mediation Training
Peer Mediation training is offered as an additional 15-hour course to
selected students.
Students receive a follow-up visit once
returning to the classroom.

The PEACE PROJECT can be replicated in schools or other community
settings.
